Yearning for some sunshine as the colder weather draws in? Fear not: the Post Office has published its Long Haul Report 2022, revealing the international destinations where your cash goes furthest. Here are the results…

For the first time since 2019, the Post Office has completed its long-haul report, so holidaymakers can find out which hotspots will offer them the best value for money.

Surveying 27 popular long-haul destinations with the help of travel specialists Travelbag, the report looked at the prices of common traveller items. These included a cup of coffee, a bottle of water, sunscreen, a glass of wine, a bottle of beer and a three-course meal for two.

A combination of the falling value of the pound and rising prices meant that overall costs had gone up across the board by an average of 20%.

The only exception was Hoi An, Vietnam, which was the cheapest destination overall. Here, the total price of holiday items was £67.78, a 10% decrease since 2019.

Cape Town, South Africa came in second place with a total of £68.49, while Mombasa, Kenya was third with the items costing £77.41.
