Ranked: the best & worst hotel chains in the UK

Updated on 24 October 2017 | 0 Comments

Which? Travel have released their consumer ranking of the best (and worst) hotel chains across the UK.

Some people swear by hotel chains, while other baulk at the idea of having to stay a night in a characterless concrete box. But not all hotel chains are made equal, as Which? Travel's latest rankings prove.

The magazine asked more than 4,000 people to rate their experiences in 30 of the UK's hotel chains, large and small. On top was Premier Inn, with an almost 80% satisfaction score – based on value for money, cleanliness and the facilities in the bathrooms and bedrooms.

On the bottom was Britannia, which has over 50 hotels across the UK, for the fifth year running. The brand scored no more than two stars in each category and had a 33% overall satisfaction score.

Other chains near the bottom include Days Inn Hotels, owned by Wyndham, Old Enlish Inns and Mercure.

The study also looked at smaller hotel chains across the UK, of which Malmaison came out on top. The small hotel chain with the lowest rating, rather unsurprisingly, is no-frills easyHotels – an offshoot of budget airline easyJet. You can see the full rankings below:
