New research, led by Peruvian archaeologist Johny Isla, used drones to uncover hundreds of similar drawings – which are believed to have been carved into the desert by the Paracas and Topará cultures, between 500 BC and 200 AD.

But while the later Nazca Lines were etched onto flat land, these earlier drawings were created on the hillsides. This suggests they were made for the enjoyment of people rather than as offerings to the Gods.
