Located in Longyearbyen, the runway that serves the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard receives regular scheduled flights and is part of the world's northernmost airport. Get it on your list if you're all about seasonal and geographical extremes. With relatively warmer weather and the potential to enjoy the legendary midnight sun, it's perhaps no surprise that the airport deals with more flights in the summer.

If you do fancy experiencing day after day of total darkness and -30°C (−22°F) temperatures, you can also fly here in winter. Bring a jacket and a headtorch, if you do. Oh, and watch out for polar bears and the Northern Lights.
