Set in Paris in the 15th century, Victor Hugo’s novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, tells the tragic story of Notre Dame cathedral’s deformed bell ringer, Quasimodo, and his unrequited love for the beautiful dancer Esmerelda. The dark tale has been adapted for the screen many times, including an animated version made by Disney where Quasimodo is naive and cheerful and ends up becoming friends with Esmerelda.

The famous cathedral suffered a terrible fire in 2019, but has now reopened.
