In April 2012, Australian mining billionaire Clive Palmer unveiled plans to build Titanic II, a near-to-scale seaworthy replica of the original liner, with an estimated cost of £396 million ($500m).

Palmer announced in March 2024 that plans were being finalised, but in August of the same year it was reported that Harland & Wolff – the shipyard that built the original Titanic – had turned down Palmer’s offer to construct the vessel, casting fresh doubt on the project's future.
