In response to growing concerns over air and water pollution, Indonesia’s Minister for Tourism and Creative Economies has called for Bali to take action against the rising risk of overtourism.

Bali is considered to be Indonesia’s primary tourist destination, with a pre-pandemic average of six million international visitors annually. With the implementation of a new tourist fee of 150,000 Indonesian rupiah per visitor (around $9/ £7), Bali officials hope to achieve a "higher quality of sustainable tourism” on the island.
