One of France’s most magical tourist destinations, the island of Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy is said to have inspired the island kingdom of Corona, birthplace of Rapunzel, in 2010’s Tangled.

Topped by a gravity-defying abbey, Mont-Saint-Michel was for centuries one of Europe’s major pilgrimage destinations. It’s now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as is its breathtaking bay. Wander its quaint winding streets and you’ll feel that you too are in a fairytale.
