Geneva is Switzerland's most densely-packed city, constrained by the surrounding mountains, the French border – which runs around the city – and the lake that shares its name. Like many European destinations it gets pretty packed during summer, but winter is if anything a more natural time to experience its snow-capped peaks, frozen glaciers, indoor museums, and decadent Swiss chocolate shops.

If you do visit during the crowded season, a cruise of the pristine waters of Lake Geneva will be sure to clear your lungs and your head.
