Just 13 days after Hurricane Helene's destruction, Hurricane Milton struck the west coast of Florida, western Cuba and Yucatán in Mexico. The tropical storm turned into a Category 5 hurricane in less than 24 hours, resulting in one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes in history.

Milton caused a whopping £25.6 billion ($34.3bn) in damages and claimed 42 lives in the US and three in Mexico. Pictured is a flooded neighbourhood in Punta Gorda, Florida.
