While the same journey aboard the famous Rocky Mountaineer will set you back at least £1,000 ($1,300) per person, VIA Rail’s overnight service between Vancouver and Jasper starts at around C$170 (£92/$124) for an Economy Class reclining seat.

Other options are Sleeper Plus Class, with either a berth or a private cabin (meals included). Prices start from C$380 (£206/$278). The service only operates on selected days – booking several weeks in advance is advised for this epic overnight rail journey.
