Situated just 15 miles from Nevada’s Wells, this ghost town never lived up to its name. Metropolis was developed in the early 20th century in order to grow wheat in the surrounding area but conflict over water rights and low agricultural prices shut the town down by the mid-1930s. Now all that is left are the remains of a school and a hotel as well as seven ranches nearby.
