Although Mont Blanc attracts thousands of climbers each year, it is one of the deadliest peaks out there. Estimates suggest that up to 100 people die annually across the Mont Blanc massif. Most fatalities result from falls, rockfalls, avalanches or climbers becoming lost or stranded.

A major factor is underestimating the mountain’s difficulty, and many attempt the climb without adequate preparation. One of the most dangerous sections, the Grand Couloir, is notorious for frequent and often fatal rockfalls.
