Nicknamed 'the day it rained forever,' on July 20, 2007 two months' worth of rain fell in just 14 hours in Gloucestershire, southern England. The extensive flooding brought total havoc to the region: 5,000 buildings were damaged, 135,000 homes were without drinking water for up to 17 days and damages cost an estimated $69.1m.

Pictured here is a small hamlet that was badly affected by the flooding, which is set to become more frequent and more intense due to climate change.
