Billionaire Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison reportedly scooped up the palatial home from fellow software billionaire Jim Clark. Clark had bought it for $94.2 million (£75m) from the Ziff family, who made their vast wealth in publishing.

Currently the 4th richest man in the world with a fortune of $107 billion (£84bn), according to Forbes, Ellison could easily afford to splash out on the property – despite the fact he already owned another huge waterfront estate in nearby North Palm Beach. He is said to have paid $80 million (£63.8m) for the seven-bed, 14-bath mansion in April 2021, with the intention of tearing it down to make way for his own creation.

However, he evidently changed his mind and listed it in August 2022 for $145 million (£115.6m) – probably because he'd splashed out on the Gemini estate and not even a multibillionaire needs two Palm Beach estates.
