On July 4, 2025, deadly and destructive floods swept through the Hill Country region of Texas, killing at least 138 people, the highest death toll from a flash flood for 49 years. Tragically, many of those lost were young campers, celebrating the Fourth of July weekend at Camp Mystic, (pictured) a Christian camp for girls in Kerr County.

Situated beside the south fork of the Guadalupe River, their huts were washed away by the rapidly rising waters, taking the lives of girls as young as eight, as well as the brave counselors who tried desperately to save them.
