Situated in Grainger Town, the historic heart of Newcastle, Grey Street has long been admired for its spectacular architecture. The Prime Minister William Gladstone described it as the country’s “best modern street,” when it was completed in 1837.

Created as the centrepiece of Richard Grainger’s Neoclassical redevelopment of Newcastle which took place between 1824 and 1841, the street is home to the Theatre Royal, which boasts one of the finest theatre façades in the country. Visitors will also find an abundance of restaurants, bars, cafés, galleries and independent shops.
