Kangaroo attacks are exceedingly unusual – but they can be deadly. In September 2022 an Australian man was killed by a kangaroo he had apparently been keeping as a pet – the first fatal attack by one of the marsupials Down Under since way back in 1936.

More recently, in January 2025, a public warning was issued in Queensland after a man was severely injured by a male kangaroo while on his way to the shops. Basically, whatever the statistics, it's always best to keep a safe distance from any wild animal.
